Few movies are made with the personal fervor of Diary of a Mad Black Woman. When Helen (Kimberly Elise, Beloved) is literally thrown out of her house by her callous lawyer husband (Steve Harris), her sense of self unravels. She finds herself on the doorstep of her gun-toting grandmother Madea (cross-dressed Tyler Perry), who sets Helen on the road to dignity and forgiveness–with a few detours along the way. The plot of Diary of a Mad B… More >>

Unless the film offers a new perspective, it can’t be of significant social value since this is such a repetitive theme, especially in America, but also throughout the world where societies are made to accommodate men, from the perspective of men, and for the benefit of men. The fact that women continually are exploited in their younger years, only to be shoved aside in later years is a signal to women of how well discrimination works in gender, in age, and in economics. It is so highly and finely tuned by ravenous attorneys that it might be termed the the “fine art of abandonment” to which the courts are wholehearted accomplices – run by men as they typically are. The fact that it may present the fine art of marketing the “theory of resignation” so women may “heal” from the life abuse is little consolation, and another attempt to encourage women to resist their finer survival instincts as well as upholding their sense of dignity and pride. Black or white, all women are in this same boat when it comes to life abuse, humiliation, and disenfranchisement.

This movie is so stupid, and terrible that I didn’t find one thing that I liked in it. Stay away, and go see something else. Don’t waste your money.

This is a total waste of film and time. Overloaded with stereotypes and over-the-top acting by b-list wannabees, “Diary…” will certainly be a hit with black audiences conditioned to expect very little, but I find it pointless and somewhat disheartening (and I’m a Black man)that we keep buying into the same old thing year after year and then wonder why we can’t move ahead. While I admire Tyler Perry’s moxie and ambition, I think we deserve better in the 21st century. Please, don’t waste your time on this useless drivel.

This movie was not very interesting , and a bit confusing at times. I didn’t really laugh at the scenes that were suppose to be funny, because they weren’t. This movie was too slow, and the performances were D average. Folks save your money, and go watch a better film like Big Momma’s House, at least that doesn’t try to mix comedy and drama together to make a movie like this does.

Could someone please explain the message in this movie? I mean, call me crazy but it seemed like God was RESTORING Charles and Helen’s marriage. Helen stays with Charles through all those years of verbal abuse and mistreatment, but decides to leave him once he finally gets saved and wants to be a loving husband? So basically, she’s leaving one Christian man for another Christian man, Orlando, whom she says she’s ‘in love’ with. So, is the message that we should cater to the flesh and make our decisions based on emotionalism? The divorce rate is high enough, especially among Christians. Is this condoning divorce for the sake of emotionalism? What happens when Helen’s relationship with Orlando enters a different season and that ‘lovin’ feeling’ isn’t there anymore? Divorce him for another Christian man she happens to fall in love with? Is being ‘in love’ with someone all that’s needed for a successful marriage? Someone PLEASE explain this to me, because the mixed messages in this movie left me ‘confused as hell’.
